Democrats Flip Senate ๐ณ๏ธ, ZachXBT Names Bank ๐ฆ, Tether Stacks 150K BTC ๐ช
Democrats flip six Republican-held seats to win the US Senate, handing them the committees that oversee Bitcoin and crypto.

Greetings Bitcoiner,
Welcome to Issue #694 of Bitcoin Breakdown, where itโs OPSEC Wednesday special, followed by the latest Quick Bits snippets. But first, todayโs Top Stories:
Democrats flipped six Republican seats to win the US Senate, so the stalled Clarity Act starts over unless it passes by January. ZachXBT named Crรฉdit Mutuel Arkรฉa in an alleged $133M theft from exchange accounts, a custody failure. Tether chief Paolo Ardoino put its stack at 150,000 BTC, about 50,000 above its reserve attestation.
Frontier models perform better in Attioโs agent harness.
We gave GPT-6 Astra the same job twice: analyze 100 sales calls and draft the follow-ups, once in Ask Attio and once in ChatGPT.
Ask Attio finished in 4 minutes 49 seconds. ChatGPT took 26 minutes 11 seconds, about 5.4 times as long.
The most ambitious GTM work requires more than frontier intelligence. It requires architecture that can put that intelligence to work at scale.

๐ณ๏ธ Democrats Flip Six Seats to Win US Senate Control
Democrats won the US Senate by flipping Republican-held seats in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kansas and Iowa, the Associated Press reports. Democrats and caucusing independents now hold 51 seats, which decides who chairs the committees overseeing Bitcoin and crypto. The stalled Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, which failed a 49 to 50 procedural vote, starts over next Congress unless it passes by January.
Why it matters: Big Bitcoin and crypto names lobbied for years for rules that build an incumbent moat, not tax abolition or freedom to spend sats peer to peer. Bitcoiners building grassroots adoption lose nothing, because the network doesn't care which party runs Washington. Read moreโ
An onchain sleuth then named a French bank...
๐ฆ ZachXBT Names French Bank in Alleged $133M Theft
Onchain investigator ZachXBT has named French banking group Crรฉdit Mutuel Arkรฉa as the alleged victim of a theft topping $133M, pulled from centralized exchange accounts. The bank has not confirmed or denied it, and the claim rests on ZachXBT's own analysis. Kraken and Crypto(dot)com say they have restricted accounts and blocked funds linked to the theft.
Why it matters: Every withdrawal traced so far left centralized exchange accounts, where custody sits with intermediaries who can lose funds or freeze them. If confirmed, that is the custodial model failing, not Bitcoin, and self-custody keeps your keys out of a third party's security budget. Read moreโ
Tether's own bitcoin stack looks bigger than attested...
๐ช Ardoino Puts Tether's Stack at 150,000 BTC
Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino told the Plan โฟ Forum in Lugano that Tether holds "give or take 150,000 bitcoin," worth about $11.5B. Its third-quarter reserve attestation implies roughly 100,060 BTC, and Ardoino did not say where the other 50,000 sit. Tether says investments funded from profits are kept apart from its stablecoin reserves, so those coins would not appear there.
Why it matters: Tether's dollar token throws off huge profits, so expect more bitcoin buying. Stablecoins still work like discount central bank money that issuers can freeze, but every sat Tether stacks pulls fiat flows into hard money and adds buy pressure. Read moreโ

On 29 October, attackers the FBI ties to North Korea pulled 18,270 BTC out of a Binance hot wallet, part of about $6.34B in stolen digital assets. Binance suspended withdrawals. Four days later Mercado Bitcoin in Brazil froze deposits and withdrawals after its own breach.
Binance says it will absorb the loss. That is the reassuring headline, and it misses the part that hurt: customers who were made whole on paper still could not move their coins.
How much should never sit on any exchange? What kind of setting makes a stolen password nearly useless? And which popular Bitcoin-only broker leaves a gap most users never notice?
